Vision Statement

A future where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people are valued and feel included in broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities. 

  

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have the capacity to respond effectively, strategically and sensitively to issues relating to health and wellbeing, HIV/AIDS, people living with HIV (PLHIV), alcohol and other drugs, youth and ageing relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people. 

  

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals have the capacity and knowledge to make informed health, wellbeing and lifestyle choices. Organisations offer access to culturally appropriate and accessible services through environments free of discrimination and stigma.

We are committed to helping every member of our diverse communities feel safe, valued, represented and supported. 2Spirits is committed to developing pathways to walk and work together in partnership with agencies to grow health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people across Queensland. 

2Spirits 

2Spirits promotes community awareness initiatives through yarning circles, workshops, outreach, resources and campaigns.

 

2Spirits delivers professional development to professionals and community members to develop their knowledge of Key Concepts and Terminologies and to develop their capacity to understand the complexities of Culture, Gender Identities and Sexuality.

 

2Spirits offers an Inclusive Services Training Package for professionals to improve their ability to appropriately support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people.

 

2Spirits also conducts Elders Forums in remote, rural and regional communities to inform Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of the impacts of homophobia and discrimination, sexually transmissible infections (STI’s) & blood-borne viruses (BBV’s) and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people and how they can support community-based awareness and education.

 

2Spirits conducts community forums across the state to develop rapport and partnerships with community stakeholders and services to work in collaboration to promote community awareness of health and wellbeing, sexuality, gender identities, inclusion and acceptance.

 

Our peer education aims to provide a cultural and safe network for all ages to promote access to health and wellbeing education, resources and support.

 

2Spirits offers consultancy to NGOs, government and non-government agencies to adopt cultural identities, gender identities and sexuality of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people as core elements of frameworks and policies.

Yarns Heal

Yarns Heal is a suicide prevention campaign for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy community; it's about sharing our stories and reaching out to our loved ones and Community Cultural Connectors when times are tough. Yarns Heal will help us learn how to support one another better and aims to strengthen our peer support systems so we can access help in culturally safe ways that nurture cultural healing, love and hope.
