Organising safe and enjoyable event experiences takes a little planning ahead.
Here’s your handy checklist for preparing with all the essentials!
My Event Checklist

1. Safe Sex Supplies
Condoms & dams*: Order here - Wrapped 'N Ready (Allow up to 2 weeks for delivery, longer for regional areas. Available for Queensland only).
2. PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
Make sure your PrEP prescription and pills are sorted before your event.
Ordering PrEP: Once you’re on a new bottle, consider placing your next order early to ensure a continuous supply.
Travelling with PrEP: Carry tablets in your original packaging in your carry-on. For longer trips, ask for a P49 prescription to purchase up to three bottles at once (note: Australian prescriptions are invalid overseas). More travel tips at ComePrepd.
3. STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) Check-Up
Plan a full sexual health check-up every 3 months if possible. Testing may include:
-
Blood test
-
Urine sample
-
Swabs (genital areas, bum & throat)
4. Vaccinations and Doxy-PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)
Mpox Vaccines: Free for Gay, Bi & any men (Cis and Trans) who have sex with men. Two Mpox doses (28 days apart) provide optimal protection. Learn more: Mpox Information.
Hepatitis Vaccines: Ask your clinician about getting vaccinated for hepatitis B and A.
Doxy-PEP: Ask your clinician if Doxycycline as a post-exposure prophylaxis to reduce the risk of certain STIs is appropriate and safe for you.
5. Self-Care Kit
Pack essentials like face masks, hand sanitiser, mouthwash, Paracetamol/Ibuprofen, and Gastro Stop. Don’t forget sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen for outdoor events.
6. Using Drugs Safely
QC does not endorse the use of recreational drugs but supports taking necessary precautions when required to reduce risks and ensure your safety.

Self-Care Tips for a Great Event

Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands for at least 30 seconds with soap and warm water after sex, paying attention to areas between fingers and the back of your hands. Good hygiene helps prevent Shigella, other gastrointestinal infections and hepatitis A transmission.

Hydrate: Drink plenty of water, especially if you’re dancing or consuming substances/alcohol.

Stay with Friends: Keep an eye on each other’s safety. Agree on a meeting point in case anyone gets separated.

Pace Yourself: Take breaks, rest, and try not to consume alcohol excessively. Alternating water between drinks is a good way to stay balanced.

Post-Event Recovery
Taking care of yourself post-event is just as important!
Here’s your recovery checklist:

Recovery Checklist

1. Continue PrEP as Prescribed
Keep taking PrEP as directed to maintain protection. For dosing options, refer to the ComePrepd dosing page (new link coming soon).

2. Rehydrate
Substances like alcohol, ecstasy, and cocaine can dehydrate the body, so drink plenty of water post-event. If you’ve been out in the sun or dancing for long periods, hydration is especially critical.

3. Rest & Nourishment
Quality sleep and a nutritious meal help restore energy and support your body’s recovery.

4. STI Check-Up
Consider a full STI screen ideally two weeks after your last sexual activity (some infections require time to detect). If you have symptoms (rash, lesions, itching), see a clinician promptly and avoid sexual contact to prevent potential STI transmission.
Glossary

STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection): Routine testing can help with early detection and management.
Doxy-PEP (Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis): Aimed at reducing syphilis, and chlamydia. Recommended dose: 200 mg within 72 hours of exposure. Consult your clinician for guidance.
Dam: A rectangular sheet of latex used to cover the bum or genital area during oral sex, used to prevent the transmission of some STIs.
